The application process to Universities in Canada is basically the same as those in the United States. Before you apply, narrow your search to 4-6 Universities, this will give a narrow scope and better direction with your application. Before choosing a university, we advise you do a thorough assessment of what exactly you are looking for and compare this to what each University has to offer.
In some cases, international students have to do 2 years (sometimes just 1) in college before applying to a University in the Canada, this is sometimes necessary depending on your background education; it is used to give you a stronger foundation in order for you to do well. Do not let this deter you as this does not mean you have to be in school for much longer than normal, when you are done with your 2 years in college, you will enter University in year 2. Hence you will spend 4 years in University, which is still fine.
Moreover, depending on how good your English is, you might have to sit for some exams to determine your strength in English, this gives the University an idea of how strong you are in the English Language and how they can help with that. These exams are usually straight forward and you will be informed way before time so that you can adequately prepare.
Furthermore, for post graduate studies, you will always have to write a cover letter for your application as there are limited spaces available and these programmes are way more competitive than Undergraduate programmes. Also, your undergrad degree classification will be used to access your application. In most cases, a 2.1 in any degree will be fine. Other times a 2.2 will be accepted. Do check the Universities you are interested in to see their requirements and if you fit the bill before making an application. Do not forget to make available two references from your lecturers, this will also be considered. Fees may be charged.
In summary, different countries have different process, some more straightforward than others, some easy than others. Before applying to any University in any country, please take some time to consider their requirements so that you can be prepared before the deadline. ALWAYS TAKE THE DEADLINE INTO CONSIDERATION. The earlier you apply the better and the more likely you will be accepted. Should you require more advice, do not hesitate to contact us. Best of luck!
