[h2]Student Jobs: Part time jobs while studying[/h2]
International students during their studies at the United Kingdom face monitory issues which involve meeting their living and education expenses. Generally education expenses can be granted with help abroad consultants who can help them to acquire study loans, UK scholarships, fees waivers or some discounts and sponsorships. But still meeting daily ongoing expenses has to be dealt with their family’s financial support residing in their home countries which can be a big strain for all of us to deal with. Hence many students thus opt for some sort of part time work to meet their financial requirements and earn some money.
There are many opportunities for international students studying in the UK to work during their studies. Special rules by the UK government have made it possible for international students to work while studying. These opportunities include part-time or vacation work plus course-related work placements.
Students can find out part-time jobs that are easily available by consulting college notice boards, looking in local newspapers and job centers, and visiting the college or university placement cells. Many colleges and institutions have their own ‘job shop’, to display part-time and holiday vacancies for their students. They may even issue job vacancy bulletins if required.
Piece of Advice to students
It is highly advisable to carefully think about how much time will be available for part time job during studies as studies should be given utmost priority. Depending upon the course you choose your studies may be intensive, time consuming and demanding. Many students find these part-time jobs very helpful to improve their communication skills, but giving priority to studies is a must.
• During course completion
UK government has taken many useful steps for the same from 3rd March 2010. All the students studying below degree level/ foundation degree course can work up to 10 hours a week during term time and full-time during vacations. Degree level students and above can work up to 20 hours a week during term time and full-time during holidays.
• After completion of the course
The UK Universities are entitled to grant visa extension of 2 yrs after completion of course under Post Study Work Visa Scheme (PSW)
• Post-Study Worker (Tier 1)
The category was introduced in the new points based system which allows the UK to retain the most able international graduates who have studied there. It also provides a bridge for these students to become a skilled or highly skilled worker.
International students after completing an undergraduate/ postgraduate degree course may apply as a post-study worker within 12 months of obtaining their qualification.
During his stay in the UK a post-study worker can look for work without needing to have a sponsor. His visa is valid for up to 2 years and it is expected that students will switch into another tier of the points based system as soon as they can.
